Mission

To provide holistic and individually focused learning experiences that result in students gaining a deep understanding of mathematical topics, which prepare them for both academic and life success.

Mathematics is an extremely important subject, and the number of students seeking private tutoring to improve their grades and ensure success in the subject is constantly growing. It is currently estimated that about 25% of students in the UK receive private tutoring, and studies show the benefit of private maths tuition is improvement equivalent to an extra 5 months of maths class!

Here at Didasko Maths, we aim to not only tackle students' individual struggles with the content but also reduce the social stigma surrounding the subject.  All of the Didasko team are passionate about maths, and we aim to pass this on to our tutees!

We provide holistic support, meaning that as well as focusing on specific maths topics that need developing we also support our students in developing confidence, metacognition, revision strategies and exam techniques.

Vision

To rid the world of the ingrained social stigma surrounding maths by inspiring students to share with others their love of maths, the richness of its history, and how it helps with life success.

Maths always came naturally to me at school, and I got top grades at GCSE and A-Level with little effort. This led me to a maths degree, where I discovered that enjoying easy good grades was not the same as enjoying maths!

Then in second year, as I sat through a long proof of the irrationality of root two using prime numbers, the lecturer casually mentions that "of course, this was first proved by Hippasus, who was then murdered by Pythagoras for this discovery" before moving on with the proof as if he hadn't just said the most interesting thing I had heard in the entire degree course.

I got a book out of the library that day, and then many more on the history of maths and the people behind the many discoveries and inventions. And my love for maths was born.

Now I wanted to pass this passion on; to help ensure that students after me not only achieved the good grades that I had enjoyed but also felt excited by maths and appreciated it for the fascinating field it is.

I started tutoring, both privately for family friends and voluntarily for a company that helped students from low-income areas, during my third year of university. During this time I helped students ranging from primary school to A-level.

Then, after my degree, I went to live in China and Japan for 15 months as an Au Pair - helping a fantastic 8-year-old girl with her studies. We remain in touch to this day, she is now 16 and attending Stanford Online High School and excelling.

When I returned to the UK I spent some more time tutoring, bringing to my lessons the techniques I had picked up from my time tutoring in Asia to further improve my sessions. My Au-pair child continued getting maths tutoring from me over Skype, and I also found myself tutoring a few of her school friends online too.

That September I started my teacher training, and spend a few years teaching in a high school. I continued to improve my pedagogy and also my desire to help every student to reach their full potential. But I had enjoyed my time tutoring privately more than I was enjoying being a school teacher and felt I could do more good (and better share my now highly developed passion for the field of maths!) in individualised tutoring sessions.

So in 2020, I found myself in a position to leave teaching and launch Didasko Maths.

With over 5 years of tutoring and teaching experience (with students from a range of countries and a range of ages) at this point, on top of my Maths and Statistics degree, PGCE, and Qualified Teacher Status, I am excited to help you and your children flourish in maths.

General Information

Didasko Maths provides primarily online sessions, making the most of current technology to provide a service that is as engaging and natural as in-person sessions. These online sessions are available to students based in all areas of the world, but we do also currently provide in-person sessions to students based in County Durham, UK.

All Didasko Maths tutors have been DBS checked. We take the safety of both our tutors and tutees very seriously and, as part of that, all initial meetings - if not online - must take place in a public area (such as a library or cafe).

Our sessions work by identifying the area of weakness, working with the student to strengthen that area, and then completing a review to make sure the lessons have had the desired effect. Using Google Drive, students will be provided with consolidation work between sessions, and previously identified weaknesses will continue to be revisited and reviewed after the initial review to ensure students remember the content and remain confident.

If students do not know the content they need to work on when they book with us, we will provide initial assessments for them to complete so we can identify topics they need to strengthen.

Parents will receive regular feedback on their child's progress.
